Indian River County is a county located in the U.S. state of Florida. Its county seat is Vero Beach. Indian River County was created in 1925 and was named for the Indian River Lagoon. Indian River County is the sole county in the Sebastian-Vero Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. Indian River County has a total area of approximately 617 square miles of which 81% is land and 19% water. As of the 2000 census, there were 112,947 people, 49,137 households, and 32,725 families residing in Indian River County, FL.
